Adams County Public Hospital District #2

EMS LEVY FACTS

Is the levy a new tax?

NO!  It replaces an existing EMS levy that was passed in 2004 and

expires in 2010.  The passage of this proposed levy will take the place of the

old levy and will be collected from 2011 through 2016.

Why six years?

The levy may be imposed for six or

ten consecutive years or on a permanent basis.

How much will the levy cost?

The proposed levy rate is $.36 per 1000 assessed value and is expected to

raise $192,000 annually.

What has the levy been used for over the last 5-6 years?

The EMS levy funds have been used to keep ambulances, necessary equipment

and emergency medical technicians stationed in Washtucna, Lind and Ritzville.

It has also provided specialized training such as treatment of farming related injuries

and an intermediate life support course which expands the scope of care

available in emergency response situations.

What will it be used for?

The EMS levy can be used only for the provision of emergency medical care or

services.  The District will use the levy funding for:

·         Purchase and enhancement of EMS equipment

·         Replacement of an ambulance in 2 years and a second unit in 5-6 years

·         Emergency room equipment purchase and maintenance

·         Recruitment and training of new EMTs

·         Training and compensation for EMTs

How many votes are required to pass the levy?

To be validated, 40% of the total ballots cast in the November 2009 election

must vote.  Of this number, a 60% “yes” vote is necessary.
